Day 26

Day 26 - all about the PERKS you are entitled of

I have written a post before about what I love about Hong Kong.
Yet again, this needs a special mention.

Hong Kong holds millions of shops, is making a big name in fashion and hails unlimited trends and styles. Advertisements and promotions attract more or less 80% of consumers. The good thing is, economic standing owns a good flow between supply and demand that REWARDS from PURCHASES become possible, and is popular. People won't hesitate in buying something for the benefit that goes with it even if they don't need it. It's just that irresistable feeling of getting two things for the price of one. I know so since I always fall for it too. Specific examples of these would be:

1. FASHION AND BEAUTY magazine costs HK$10 but you get a sample of a facial wash or a cute ID holder. The tendency is, I buy it 4 times a month which I don't mind because there's always this feeling of getting something for free on the side. But actually, I don't need that much number of magazines (most especially if they are printed in Chinese). Thank God for my husband in making me realise that.

2. I have won movie tickets because of simply participating in an online contest twice already. That one is a win-win situation.

3. Just finish 12 stamps in buying stuff from 7-11 and you get a cute toy. (Still you're invited to purchase more than what you're supposed to to get the toy.)

4. H&M last year offers HK$50 worth of gift coupons to customers who had purchased products amounting to HK$350 (which isn't impossible to reach at all) on a single transaction. - Same thing, you are tempted to get that other pair of earrings (even though you have a hundred more sitting at home) just to reach HK$350 when you meant to just add up a shirt to your summer collection from last year. In the end, both the shirt and the earrings were not needs as of the moment.

The point is, consumers don't mind falling for these rewards because they have money to spend anyway. They got the means to do so and they can afford to waste money on things they don't need in the first place.

Let me make it simple, Hong Kong residents, workers and students are able to get hold of any form of caprice because everybody has a job. Such entitlement to recreational goods may be acquired because everybody earns their own money. That being said, MAC maybe expensive to some but because of the perks that my employment contract entitles me to a certain percentage of a discount.

I am able to buy what may be the most suitable make-up for everyday use with that much degree of satisfaction with that decent discounted price. I know some countries that offer the same deals still ends up ripping off buyers but here in Hong Kong, it ain't like that. You get what you deserve and I love it!
